In Connecticut, Home Health Aides must be Certified Nursing Aides and have completed the CNA training and competency evaluation. In order to become certified as a Home Health Aide in Connecticut, the department of public health requires that:
1. The State of Connecticut requires that a nurse aide training program be at least 100 hours in duration and be coordinated by a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years experience, one of which must be in long term care
2. Students must complete 16 hours in the following areas prior to any direct contact with the residents:a. Communication and Interpersonal Skills
b. Residents Rights
c. Residents Independence
d. Safety and Emergency Procedures including the Heimlich Maneuver, and
e. Infection Control3. Complete state competency examination within 24 months from completion of training and complete registration with the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
