In order to become a Home Health Aide in Kentucky, you must complete a state approved training program and competency evaluation. The competency evaluation is comprised of a written exam and a clinical skills exam. A Testing Procedures and Study Guide is available from KCTCS. All home health aides must complete a training course with 75 hours of classroom training, and 16 hours of supervised practical training.
In addition, a Home Health Aide must have a High School Diploma or GED.
How to Maintain an Active Home Health Certification:
Once you become certified as a Home Health Aide, your status remains active for two years, and must be renewed. The date you passed your nurse aide training examination is the date used for renewal of your active status.
In order to renew your certification, you must provide the following proof of employment. In order to stay active, you must complete at least eight hours of paid home care services during the past two years. This can be proved through a pay stub, w-2 form and employer letter.
In addition to renewing your certification, each HHA is also responsible for maintaining an annual 12 hours of continuing in-service education. This date starts from the date of employment
