Montana has strict requirements for one to work as a home health aide. Certification Bureau at our Department of Public Health and Human Services approves the training programs for both CNAs/HHAs.The requirements include:
- 91 hours of minimum training hours
- 16 hours of minimum clinical hours
- Pass state competency evaluation
Whether you are a current student progressing towards HHA certification or already certified HHA, you must register on the state nurse aide registry which can be accessed by clicking the link below. Once registered on the nurse aide registry, you can apply for HHA certification or get your certification renewed.

The individual must complete the training program and/or/ state approved competency testing program within 4 months of being hired.
