Rhode Island Department of Health licenses Home Nursing Care Providers and Home Care Providers. Home Nursing Care Providers can also be certified to meet the federal Medicare services requirements, authorized under federal regulations. Home Nursing Care Providers that are "certified for Medicare" are referred to as Home Health Agencies.
Home Care Providers do not provide "skilled" services, but can provide assistance with daily living and personal care. Businesses that only provide homemaker and companion assistance (i.e. no personal care for direct hands-on assistance with daily living care, do not require a license).
